Fire Alarm Systems are designed to offer an early warning of a fire in order to minimise risks to both the building and the people in it. Fire alarm systems play a crucial role in ensuring safety - and rightfully so. If left undetected, fires can rapidly and destructively spread, causing significant damage to both lives and property.  However, it is important to note that having a fire detection system in place is ineffective if it is not in full working order and regularly maintained. Regular servicing of your fire alarm system is the best way to ensure that safety is maintained across your premises and compliance with fire safety legislation.

Ensure that your fire alarm system is in optimal working condition for your home or business.

For Your Home

Servicing your home fire alarm system is essential for several reasons.

First and foremost, it ensures the safety of you and your loved ones. A properly functioning fire alarm system can quickly detect  and alert you to the presence of smoke or fire, giving you precious time to react, evacuate or call for help. Regular servicing and maintenance help to ensure that your fire alarm system is in good working order and will respond effectively in the event of an emergency. It also ensures  that all components of the system, such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, batteries and sirens, are in good working order and able to provide reliable protection. A trained professional can inspect the various components of the fire alarm system, as well as clean and test the system to ensure it is operating at its optimal level. Regular servicing can also help to extend the lifespan of your fire alarm system. By having your fire alarm system serviced and maintained, you can identify and address any issues before they become major problems and avoid costly repairs or replacements down the line.

Servicing your home fire alarm system is  a small investment of time and money that can provide invaluable peace of mind and protection.

For your Business

Regular servicing your business fire alarm system is not only a legal requirement, it also ensures the safety of your employees, customers, and property.

As the owner, employer, landlord, occupier or anyone in a position of authority, you hold responsibility for fire safety within your business. You have a legal obligation to ensure your fire detection and alarm system is in good working order and adheres to current regulatory standards. A properly functioning fire alarm system can detect smoke or fire at the earliest stages, giving people enough time to evacuate safely and reducing the risk of injuries or fatalities.

Appropriate fire alarms are a legal requirement for all businesses in the UK, especially if the establishment is large, stores hazardous substances such as chemicals, and undertakes high-risk activities such as cooking. However, it is not enough to simply install good quality fire alarms and smoke detectors - according to the law, you must regularly maintain and test them too.

In accordance with legal regulations, a business fire alarm system must be subject to periodic testing and inspections in order to identify any faults and  implement preventative measures to ensure the continued reliability of the system.

Users test a fire alarm on a weekly and monthly basis, and a more detailed inspection needs to be carried out by a trained engineer at least twice a year. According to BS5839 Standards - Fire detection and Alarm Systems for Buildings it is required that all the detectors, call points, panels and circuits must be tested every 6 months by a competent person with specialist knowledge of fire alarm systems and smoke detectors. However, this timeframe is not fixed and may vary as specified during a fire risk assessment, and is dependent on the size and complexity of the fire alarm system. For example, for large and high-risk properties, it might be best to have the system serviced every four months instead of the recommended six. Additionally, you may notice signs of damage or deterioration in your fire alarm system, and so it's advisable to promptly consult a professional to identify and resolve any issues before they impact the optimal functionality of the system.
